What should I do?

You have a choice to make, and everyone around you has a stake in it. Each of them pulls a different way.

Auturis keeps what they can't: a record of what you wanted before the pressure came. You tell it about your life, what you are working toward and who matters to you, and it builds your graph. When the decision arrives, it weighs your options against what you told it.

This side of the system is for a decision or commitment you're personally working through. Auturis is designed to help you decide for yourself, for any given circumstance, what it is that you ought to do — not by handing you an answer, but by building a picture of what you actually care about, then holding a specific choice or principle up against it. It's organized into three tools — Build, Decide, and Discern — reachable from the menu inside the app. See below for how each one works.

Build — build your graph

A guided conversation that helps you articulate what you actually care about, and weaves it into your graph as you go.

The Build tool: a guided conversation reflecting on a person's own values, referencing their graph directly as it goes — 'I see from your graph that Cultivate Friendships is an active project' The Build tool's graph-update review: commitments drawn from the conversation, shown for confirmation before anything is added

Decide — compare your options

Once you've built out some of your graph, Decide can help you think through a real problem. You set out the options that you are currently facing, and the system checks each one against the ends contained in your graph, looking for how each option strains or serves those ends. This also works for small-group decisions: the options are compared against everyone's graph at once.

The Decide tool: a form for describing a real decision — a duplex renovation where renting the first floor early would cut off kitchen access upstairs — laying out the options and the central tension The Decide tool's option assessment: each option rated for coherence impact against the graph, with domain-level strains and strengths and the ends put at risk or supported The Decide tool's Practical Wisdom synthesis: a written analysis of the tension between the options, naming a value neither option fully names, and proposing a third path

Discern — find and test your principles

Discern helps you think through moral issues. It starts by working with you to identify the principle which lies at the bottom of the matter you are considering. It then asks the following question: what would happen if everyone acted on that principle? As a first step to answering this question, the system models a world in which everyone behaves in accordance with that principle and examines that world for damage to the core of the graph.

A Discern verdict reasoned out in full: Contradiction in Will, walking through what the principle depends on, what it would produce if universalized, and what that means for this specific situation
A Discern verdict: Contradiction in Will, incoherence index 0.250, shown as a plain-language band on a 0-to-1 scale with options to examine the reasoning or record the maxim
